How to Use MedSchool Companion: Complete Getting Started Guide
Welcome to MedSchool Companion. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to get started and make the most of the platform.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Visit medschoolcompanion.com and click Sign Up. You can register with your email or use Google sign-in for faster access.
Once registered, you will be taken to your dashboard—the central hub for all your courses and materials.
Step 2: Set Up Your First Course
MedSchool Companion organizes your materials by course. This keeps everything structured and easy to find.
- Click Create Course on your dashboard
- Enter the course name (e.g., Pathology, Pharmacology)
- Add an optional description
- Click Save
You can create as many courses as you need—one for each class you are taking.
Step 3: Add Your First Lecture
Within each course, you can add individual lectures.
- Open the course you just created
- Click Add Lecture
- Enter a lecture title
- Upload your lecture file (PowerPoint, PDF, or Word document)
- Click Save
The platform will process your file and extract the content. This usually takes just a few moments.
Step 4: Generate Your First Quiz
This is where the magic happens. Once your lecture is uploaded:
- Open the lecture
- Click Generate Quiz
- Select the number of questions you want
- Choose question types (multiple choice, clinical vignettes)
- Click Generate
The AI will analyze your lecture content and create practice questions. You can take the quiz immediately or save it for later review.
Tips for Better Quizzes
- Upload clear, text-based slides for best results
- More content gives the AI more material to work with
- You can regenerate quizzes to get different questions
Step 5: Create an Audio Podcast
Transform your lecture into audio for on-the-go learning:
- Open the lecture
- Click Generate Podcast
- Wait for processing (this takes a bit longer than quizzes)
- Download or stream your audio directly
The podcast feature is perfect for:
- Reviewing during your commute
- Learning while exercising
- Reducing screen fatigue
- Reinforcing material through a different modality
Step 6: Use the AI Chat

You can ask about:
- Specific topics from your lectures

Take notes directly in the platform to keep everything in one place:
- Navigate to Notebooks
- Create a new notebook for each course or topic
- Add notes as you study
- Reference them alongside your uploaded materials
Best Practices for MedSchool Companion
Upload Early and Often
Upload lectures the same day you have them. This lets you generate quizzes while the material is fresh.
Quiz Before You Think You Are Ready
Active recall works best when it challenges you. Generate a quiz before you feel prepared—it will identify gaps in your knowledge.
Use Podcasts for Review, Not First Exposure
Audio works best for reinforcement. Watch or read the material first, then use podcasts to solidify your understanding.
Integrate with Your Existing Workflow
MedSchool Companion supplements your other resources. Use it alongside UWorld, First Aid, and your school's curriculum.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Quiz Questions Seem Off
AI quality depends on input quality. If questions are not ideal:
- Check that your slides have clear, readable text
- Try regenerating with different settings
- Upload additional context documents
Processing Takes Too Long
Large files take longer to process. If you are in a hurry, try uploading smaller sections.
